My Own Letter from Love

Earlier this week, I listened to the We Can Do Hard Things podcast with Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach and Amanda Doyle. It’s one of my favorite pods. This week, I listened to Episode 281: How Amanda Finally Calmed Her Brain & Her Letter from Love with Liz Gilbert. And all I need to say is that I was a whole puddle of tears. I listened to it on Monday morning, weeping while I was blow-drying my hair. And listened to it all again on Tuesday morning, tears welling up as I made my morning smoothie. I am a morning person and the way I start my morning matters to me so I often listen to podcasts to get me going. Might not have been the wisest idea to play this one while I was trying to start my workday, LOL. But long story short, Elizabeth Gilbert has practiced this concept of “Letters from Love” where she asks Love (or God/the Divine/Holy Spirit, or whatever name you want to use), “Love, what would you have me know?” WOOOOOF. What a question. This isn’t a letter to yourself. It is a letter from Love, to you. I was so moved and impacted by the Letter from Love that Amanda shared that I decided to do my own. So in the name of all things vulnerable, I’m sharing with you my very own Letter from Love below. Take out a paper and a pen and let your own Letter from Love be written to you. It was a beautiful practice.

Dear Love, what would you have me know?

Because you are who you are and I am who I am, you already have all that you need. You have spent your life searching to fill a void that you know only I can fill. You are loved abundantly. There is nothing and nobody on this Earth that will love you more than I already do. The plan and path I have for you is one beyond your wildest dreams. You need to just keep walking in it. You don’t need to keep grasping or trying too hard. You have what you need. You know all of the spaces where I have made a way for you — the dark, sad places that I have already brought you out of. You know that in the same way, I will do that in every step forward too. The world will make you question this — and sometimes, you will feel crazy for the level of trust you are placing in Me. But I know that you already know it will be worth it. You know that this life I have planned for you is SO GOOD. You are capable and wise, and you have all you need — but you need Me in the plan too. You know this life is too challenging to try to walk alone. You know I have you in the palm of My hand.

You can rest in My promises. Find rhythms of rest in your life and your week — they will give you what you need and help you loosen your grip. You have gifts that matter to the world. Most of them have nothing to do with what you can do — your gifts are just who you are. Your presence is a gift to those around you, not because of what you can do for them, but because of who you are. You keep seeing more and more evidence of My work in your life and your own healing. You can trust Me — you see me working for your good.

I am working to heal the parts that are still hurting, especially your heart and the parts of your body that are always in pain. I’ve surrounded you with a community of healers; look around you. There are friends, family, pastors, therapists, spiritual directors, doctors, energy healers, massage therapists, and more. I’ve put you in this place with these people because you are going to get well. I am working for your good — don’t you see it? You can trust Me. I see you doing your own work too and I’m so proud of you for it. I see how committed you are to your own wellness. Keep going, it will keep getting better. I am with you along every step.

The work I am doing in your own healing is your gift to the world and you get to share it. Don’t be afraid to show up for others in their own healing journeys — that is precisely your purpose here on Earth. You are uniquely positioned and purposed and set apart to do exactly that. Step into your gifts and share about it, come alongside others, and know that we are going to do great things together. Trust in Me. This is the way, let’s walk in it.
